iPhone, Microsoft, Google....

Its been quite a while since I updated the blog. Quite a few things are happening that have got me curious...

1. Rumours are up again about the iphone from Motorola that has the iTunes client from Apple. Cingular is supposed to be the operator. The day is Sept 7th and I am looking forward to it with great expectations and how customers will react to this.

2. This is an old news. Google talk was launched by Google and its in a beta version yet. Unlike Skype, this is based on IETF XMPP protocol and hence can interoperate with other jabber/XMPP clients for Presence and messaging. However voice is only available between Google talk clients since a custom XMPP messages are used for the voice signaling. I am not sure why Google preferred XMPP over SIP since SIP supports a wide range of applications including voice, IM, presence, etc, However, they have assured SIP support in near future.

3. Microsoft has bought Teleo and it will be integrating the voice client into MSN messenger. Lookout Google, Skype and Yahoo, the Redmon beast is here. The VoIP war seems to have heated up, what with so many players entering the market - Skype, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Gigmo and so on.
